この複合材料は、中空部分がエポキシ樹脂で満たされた繊維からできている。穴や割れ目ができると、この樹脂が漏れ出してその穴をふさぎ、強度を元の80〜90％まで回復させる。
このエポキシには色が付けられているため、整備士があとで簡単に修復箇所を見つけ出して本格的な修理ができる。飛行中に受けたちょっとした傷(ここで問題としているのはわずかな裂け目や割れ目のことで、大きな穴ではない)であれば、小さな傷の出血が止まるくらいの時間で修復される。
